Balloue, John

John Balloue  (1948 - )
Creator of the winning poster design for the 2001 Indian Market in Santa Fe, John Balloue painted "Delegates for Peace," five Sioux Indian Chiefs.

Balloue was born in Richmond, California and is the son of a Cherokee father and an English mother. He grew up in the suburbs of San Francisco and has remained in that area except for 14 months in Vietnam. He graduated from California State University at Hayward in 1975, the first member of his family to be a college graduate.

His style is photo-real, much influenced by James Bama, Richard McClean, and Robert Bechtle. For the past 20 years, his subject matter has been almost exclusively Native American.
