Candelario, John
American (1916-1993). John Candelario was a seventh-generation New Mexican. Candelario met Edward Weston in the late 1930s, who shared his photographic experience. Candelario also was a friend of Georgia O'Keeffe's, who showed his work to Alfred Stieglitz and to Nancy Newhall, who exhibited his prints at the Museum of Modern Art. A master platinum printer, Candelario produced New Mexico Portfolio in 1943, a sensitive body of portraits and scenes in Hispanic New Mexico. He also worked in the film industry and received numerous awards, including an Emmy, a Peabody Award, and a Golden Reel Award.
